 Matt
McSpadden, Knoxville native, has had a love for music since he was a small boy.
Raised for the first 5 years of his life by a pack of wild dogs in the hills of
East TN, he was graciously adopted by a family from Knoxville, after he was
found scrounging for dinner scraps by their garbage can. Too cute to let
go, but too wild to let inside, Matt spent two years in the doghouse, literally.
Only after hearing the sounds of the classical piano one lonely night in
mid-July, 1991, did Matt finally decide he was ready to join his new family
inside.
Matt began his formal music training at the age of 7, and continued playing
classical piano for 11 years. In the meantime, he picked up a guitar, found
classic rock radio, and eventually was introduced to the island sounds of Jimmy
Buffett. The slow, southern swing mixed with the bright tropical sounds
had an
immediate appeal.
In 2002, Matt took a 4 year detour to Atlanta, where he studied English at Emory
University. He continued to sing and play music, directing No Strings
Attached, the men’s a cappella group at Emory, for 3 years, and performing at
Turner Field, Phillips Arena, as well as for local Atlanta organizations.
After graduation in 2006, he decided to move back home and try his hand at the
music scene in Knoxville. He has performed solo at such places as
Etcetera, Couva Calypso Café, and Preservation Pub, and with Brent Thompson and
His Wandering Circus at the Riverbend Festival in Chattanooga, and on WDVX’s
Blue Plate Special.

In
the summer of 2008, Matt reconnected with old friend Ryan Sheley and his brother
Tod, to form Homemade Wine. With this new found venture, they have set out
to transform the tropical rock scene, bring attention to the slow-simmered
southern lifestyle, and spread the happiness and laid-back relaxation that comes
from a life well spent with good friends, good food, good drinks, and good
music.
